Large Aperture Scintillometer Intercomparison Study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Two field studies with six large aperture scintillometers (LASs) were performed using horizontal and slant paths. The accuracy of this novel and increasingly popular technique for measuring sensible heat fluxes was quantified by comparing measurements from different instruments over nearly identical transects. Random errors in LAS measurements were small, since correlation coefficients between adjacent measurements were greater than 0.995. However, for an ideal set-up differences in linear regression slopes of up to 21% were observed with typical inter-instrument differences of 6%. Differences of 10% are typical in more realistic measurement scenarios over homogeneous natural vegetation and different transect heights and locations. InaccuJ. Estimation of heat and momentum fluxes over complex terrain using a large aperture scintillometer
A comprehensive experimental plan has been designed to further investigate the potential and the limitations associated with the use of a large aperture scintillometer (LAS) to infer path average sensible and momentum fluxes over complex surfaces as part of the Semi-Arid Land–Surface–Atmosphere (SALSA) Program. The complexity of the terrain is associated with the type and the cover of the veget...

متن کاملComparison of Sensible Heat Fluxes Measured by a Large Aperture Scintillometer and Eddy Covariance System over a Heterogeneous Farmland in East China
The sensible heat is an important component in surface energy partitioning over the land surface. This paper compared the sensible heat fluxes measured by a large aperture scintillometer system (LAS) and an eddy covariance system (EC) over a rice paddy with a patch of mulberry seedlings in the east China coastal region during the period from 13 September–11 October 2015. During the observation ...
متن کاملInstrument comparison: corrected stellar scintillometer versus isoplanometer.
The scintillation pattern from a single star can be utilized to provide information on the refractive turbulence along the line of sight. Instruments that provide refractive turbulence parameters are the isoplanometer and the stellar scintillometer. Attention is drawn to the fact that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration theoretical treatment and implementation of the stellar sci...
متن کاملCombining scintillometer measurements and an aggregation scheme to 3 estimate area - averaged latent heat flux during the AMMA experiment
23 This paper deals with the issue of using scintillometry in conjunction with a simple aggregation scheme 24 to derive area-averaged sensible and latent heat fluxes over a small watershed in Niamey, Niger (Wank25 ama catchment). Data collected in the context of the African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis (AMMA) 26 program has been used to test the proposed approach. For this purpose, a Larg...
